Should I have a mid face lift?

Published on November 13, 2012

Overview

The mid face lift or midface surgery improves the cheek (think of this as the triangular region on each side from the nose to the side of the face and below the lower eyelid margin to the upper lip) — by correcting the descent of the malar fat pad. This falling tissue often accompanies aging and creates a hollow under eye, deepens the nasolabial fold and the jowl at the jaw line. This change robs the face of its youthful shape.

The midface lift is a procedure that yields a more youthful appearance by smoothing the lower eyelids and cheeks, bringing back a natural fullness to these areas associated with strong cheek-bones in men and women and provides the shape associated with a heart shaped face in women

Indications

Over time our skin tends to lose its elasticity, while the ligaments of the cheeks and eyelids begin to weaken, contributing to a tired and worn-out look. If this is the case for you, you may benefit from a midface lift.

A midface lift is usually indicated when a complete facelift is unnecessary (due to lack of more pronounced concerns such as the “neck cord”); yet facial fillers are not sufficient to treat the root of the problem because of a loss of soft tissue from prior surgery, or because of a significant deficiency in bone projection. Dr. Steinsapir always prefers noninvasive treatment methods when possible, yet in circumstances wherein a filler is inadequate, a midface lift can be extremely helpful surgical alternative.

Expertise

Among the key pioneers of the midface surgery–a relatively new frontier in plastic surgery–Dr. Steinsapir often trains other surgeons in this procedure and lectures extensively. The midface surgery has emerged over the last fifteen years, making it an area of rapid progress. This also means that choosing an experienced specialist is critically important for optimal results. As a leader in the field, Dr. Steinsapir offers a midface lift with hand carved ePTFE orbital rim implants, which have been broadly applauded and often used in corrective and reconstructive surgeries after an unsatisfactory procedure. Dr. Steinsapir’s extensive experience and training offer proven solutions with the midface lift that are hard to come by.
